My awesome list, because she gave me a really beautiful tart pan, just like I've always wanted (thanks, Meredith for being the keeper of my secret wish list). For my inagural tart, I decided to try the Barefoot Contessa's Plum Tart. It was so easy, it wasn't even funny. First I blitzed some walnuts into powder in my food processor, then mixed them with flour and sugar. Then I cut in some butter (quite a bit of butter actually. That's probably why it was so good) and one egg yolk. That's it! I just pushed it about half of it into my gorgeous tart pan.
Then I cut up my pretty yellow plums from my CSA and laid them in a haphazard pattern in the pan. I think I was supposed to be aiming for some sort of flower....I'm not really that kind of girl though.
Then I just scattered the rest of the walnut/sugar/flour thing over the plums and patted it into the fruit. I baked it in the oven and pondered. I was really skeptical. The crust and the filling were the same thing! How good could this be?
Really really really good. I was so wrong. The fruit was sweet and the walnuts and butter and sugar crumbled away in my mouth. I love making tarts! I've got to try some more.
